History / Summary
Associated with the service of 1452 Richard Trendall, born in Surrey, England in 1889. Trendall, a 26 year old butcher, enlisted as a private with 9 Light Horse Regiment on 14 July 1915. He had attempted to enlist earlier but was rejected on account of his bad teeth. Trendall embarked for Egypt from Adelaide on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla. In March 1916 he was transferred briefly to 3 Light Horse Reserve Regiment before joining 15 Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) in April, serving initially as a gunner and later as a driver. Trendall went on to serve in France with 25 FAB from July to January 1917, and then with 53 Battery, 14 FAB until his discharge in September 1919.
