Description

Soldiers from the UNAMIR II silhouetted against a setting sun treat injured Rwandan civilians recovered from UN administered refugee camp at Kibeho where over 2,000 unarmed civilians were brutally massacred by the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA). The refugee camp at Kibeho, at one time held an estimated 120,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), fleeing the genocide of the civil war between Rwanda's two tribal groups, the Tutsi and Hutu. This group of soldiers includes members of the second Australian Service Contingent (ASC2) serving in the second United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR II).
