Description
Copies of newspaper cuttings and correspondence relating to the death of Staff Sergeant William Gladstone Monks of 2 Brigade. Monks was killed at Gallipoli on the 8th May 1915 during the Krithia offensive. Correspondents include Monks' brigade commander Colonel J W McCay and Sergeant Harold Eastoe. In his letter of May 1915, McCay mentions that it was both himself and Charles Bean who packed up and sent Monks's possessions to the family. Other items in the collection include newspaper cuttings written in 1960, relating the work of Noel Monks as a war correspondent during the Second World War.
