Description
9Studio portrait of 3305 Private (Pte) Robert Burnett Gellert, 11th Reinforcements, 6th Battalion, of Carlton, Vic. Pte Gellert enlisted on 14 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor on 11 October 1915. He was later promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl). LCpl Gellert was killed in action on 27 October 1917 at Zonnebeke, Belgium. He was posthumously awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 12 December 1917. His brother, 3772 Pte John Gellert, 14th Battalion, and brother-in-law 5785 Pte Alan Andrews, 24th Battalion, also served with the AIF. Both returned to Australia.
