OFF PORT MORESBY, PAPUA. 1942-08-30. THE DAMAGED ENTRANCE TO THE LOUNGE OF M.V. MALAITA SUSTAINED WHEN THE SHIP WAS TORPEDOED BY AN ENEMY SUBMARINE OFF PORT MORESBY. THE TORPEDO ENTERED THE VESSEL JUST UNDER THIS SPOT AND IT WAS IN THE CABIN BEHIND THE UPTURNED TABLE THAT THE ONLY CASUALTY WAS SUSTAINED - THE CHIEF STEWARD - WHO HAD BOTH LEGS BROKEN.
