Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales, Sir Frederick Darley GCMG, officiating at a ceremony held at Victoria Barracks, presenting decorations earned by officers during the South African War (Boer War) of 1899-1901. Captain N R Howse Australian Medical Corps (AMC) (in khaki) is receiving the Victoria Cross (VC). The officers in the foreground from left to right are: Lieutenant F A Dove of New South Wales New South Wales Mounted Infantry (NSWMI); Captain M A Hilliard, NSWMI; Lieutenant F C Learmouth, NSWMI; Captain R E Roth, AMC; Captain William Holmes, NSWMI; Major T H Fiaschi, AMC, were to receive the Distinguished Service Order (DSO).
