Rally round the flag...
Early British First World War recruitment poster issued by the War Office. It is an appeal to the viewers patriotism. The image takes up the whole and is a depiction of a British infantryman holding his rifle with bayonet fixed ready for action. Billowing behind him is the Union Jack flag. The soldier is set against a generalised depiction of a battle field. In the distance teams of horse drawn artillery are visible. The title printed in white is positioned above the image with a subtitle beneath the image. Both image and title are set against a brown background. The poster calls for men to ' Rally round the flag' stressing the need for more troops and was the slogan used for many posters by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee at the start of the war.
