Description
The German-manufactured 'Das Mastfernrohr' [mast telescope], or giant periscope, used by the German Crown Prince to view the Battle of Verdun from a safe distance. These optical devices were used for the observation of enemy positions, specifically for artillery spotting. The periscope appears to be attached to a limber.
