NBC protective overboots : Special Air Services Regiment
Pair of Australian military issue NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) Mk V protective overboots. The black rubber boots have a flat sole with a wavy rubber tread for grip. They are secured by three elastic toggles on a reinforced rubber strip above the instep, which clip over black plastic buttons on the outer leg. There are rubber reinforcing strips around the sole, and running down the front of the shin to the toe. A wide strip of green nylon reinforcing fabric runs up from the heel inside each boot. A square black rubber label attached to each outer leg reads, in raised letters, 'XL 10 - 11' above a Broad Arrow. Stamped on the inner left of each boot are the letters '12XL LOT NO 55'. The number '12' is also marked on each insole.
Part of an NBC suit issued to members of the Special Air Services Regiment serving in Afghanistan during the War against Terror in 2002.
