Description
Depicts a portrait of a soldier (possibly American?), wearing a helmet and in uniform, looking upwards in fear or anger, his mouth open. The image relates to the presence of American troops in Iraq, during the current Second Gulf War or the International Coalition Against Terrorism. Thomas de Kessler was born in Hungary in 1925, and educated at the Academy of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Art in Budapest, obtaining qualifications in graphics and silversmithing. He migrated to Australia in 1950 and has worked as a graphic designer, producing prints, murals, designs for theatre sets, costume designs and book illustrations. His illustrations often comment on the moral, social and political impact of war.
