1944. STARBOARD BOW VIEW OF THE BATTLESHIP USS COLORADO (BB-45) SHOWING MANY OF HER WARTIME ALTERATIONS. THE 5 INCH/25 AA GUNS MOUNTED ABOVE THE CASEMATES FOR HER 5 INCH/25 LOW ANGLE BATTERY HAVE BEEN FITTED WITH SHIELDS. A QUADRUPLE 40 MM BOFORS MARK 2 MOUNTING IS SITED ABREAST NO 2 16 INCH GUN TURRET. 20 MM OERLIKON AA GUNS ARE FITTED ON THE FORECASTLE, AROUND THE BRIDGE, ON A PLATFORM BETWEEN THE FUNNELS AND ON THE CROWN OF NO 3 TURRET. THE LARGE SK-1 AIR SEARCH RADAR IS PROMINENT WITH A SMALL SG SURFACE SEARCH AERIAL VISIBLE ABOVE IT. SHE HAS RETAINED HER CAGE FOREMAST AT THE HEAD OF WHICH IS THE FIRE CONTROL STATION TOPPED BY THE MAIN ARMAMENT DIRECTOR WITH ITS MARK 3 RADAR.
