Description
The interior of the hospital hut at Wampo on the Burma-Thailand Railway. Identified is Gunner (Gnr) Derek Gilbert 148 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, second from left. His knee was swollen due to a beating with a rifle by a Japanese guard for stopping work without permission. Gnr Gilbert was suffering from dysentery at the time. The hut is a typical 100 metre attap-roofed hut used along the railway, with sleeping space for each man measured approximately two feet six inches in width.
