Q CLASS DESTROYER QUIBERON. FIVE Q CLASS DESTROYERS ON LOAN FROM BRITAIN FROM 1942 TO 1946 WERE TRANSFERRED OUTRIGHT TO THE RAN IN JUNE 1950. AFTER SERVING IN MANY THEATRES DURING WORLD WAR 2 QUIBERON WAS DECOMMISSIONED IN AUGUST 1948. IN NOVEMBER 1950 CONVERSION TO A Q CLASS (TYPE 15) ANTI-SUBMARINE FRIGATE WAS COMMENCED AND QUIBERON REJOINED THE FLEET IN THAT ROLE ON 18TH DECEMBER 1957. AFTER BEING DECOMMISSIONED ON 26TH JUNE 1964 SHE WAS SOLD ON 15TH FEBRUARY 1972 TO THE FUJITA SALVAGE CO LTD OF JAPAN AND LEFT SYDNEY UNDER TOW ON 10TH APRIL 1972.
