| Description | Portrait of two members of the 51st Battalion. Identified on the left is 2616 Private Edward Higgins. Later promoted to lance corporal, Edward Higgins was wounded twice in France before being killed in action on ANZAC Day, in 1918. His brother, John Murray Higgins, who was in the same battalion, had been killed 10 months earlier. The soldier on the right is possibly Indigenous and is unidentified. From the Thuillier collection of glass plate negatives. Taken by Louis and Antoinette Thuillier in Vignacourt, France during the period 1916 to 1918. |

It is so rare to see an indigenous soldier in uniform at this time. We must not forget their service.

It s most likely that Edward and the unidentified soldier are both from Pingelly District in WA
