He discusses early days and school life in Cunnamulla and Brisbane; enlistment in 1915; the first time he saw death first hand; Christmas dinner in 1916; meeting Frank (later Sir Frank) Beaurepaire; experiencing shelling, trenchfoot, lice, "frozen blankets" and winter of 1916 in France; feelings about Armistice, and what he was doing when it occurred; life, marriage and working in insurance after the war; the long lasting, after- effects of shell shock.
