Spalding, Alfred Lawrence (Engineer b.1886 - d.1933)
Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of Alfred Lawrence Spalding. Collection consists of a transcript of a diary kept while working aboard the cable laying ship `Levant 2' for the Eastern Telegraph Company during the Gallipoli campaign. Records shipboard incidents, landing by allied troops, admiration for the Australians, exposure to Turkish snipers, laying and repair of cables to beaches, evacuation.
