Description

Flight Sergeant Geoffrey Russell Gahan enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force on 23 June 1940, after previously serving in the militia. He did his initial flying training in New South Wales, and later travelled to the United Kingdom to complete his training as an air gunner. In October 1941, Flight Sergeant Gahan was posted to 15 Squadron, based in England. He then transferred to 7 Squadron in March 1942. With both squadrons, Flight Sergeant Gahan served in bombing operations over enemy-occupied Europe with his crew. On 6 May 1942, Flight Sergeant Geoffrey Russell Gahan was killed in a flying battle over France. He is buried at Avesnes-sur-Helpe Communal Cemetery, Avesnes sur Helpe, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
