Description
Private (Pte) Wild (probably 795 Private Arthur Wild, later awarded the Military Medal and commissioned) and Private Woods (probably either 1066 Pte F J Woods, or 1138 Pte L V Woods ) both of D Company, 13th Battalion on HMT Ascot just prior to landing on Gallipoli. All three men survived the war. The photograph was taken to show bundles of faggots carried on each man's back as well as water bottles strapped to the pack, extra ammunition in bandoliers and double iron ration in haversack.
