History / Summary

Brickhill's letters are written in an eloquent and light-hearted manner. The first letter, written to Del in 1939 while Brickhill was a feature writer for "The Sun", gives his views on the war and enlistment. The second letter, written in 1943, describes Brickhill's experiences and thoughts while on active service in the Middle East, including conditions and water shortages. Brickhill reminisces about England, and remains optimistic for the future. The third letter is brief, about Brickhill staying on in London to write and work for "The Sun". The postcard to Del was written from Stalag Luft III, the German prisoner of war camp on which Brickhill's book "The Great Escape" was based.
