Fired 1 inch Nordenfelt projectile.
History / Summary
Fired 1 inch Nordenfelt projectile as used in the Mk VI machine gun. The top third of the projectile is exposed steel the remainder has a coating of brass. South African war era. Nordenfelt multi-barrel quick-firing guns, in a variety of calibres, were adopted by several Australian Colonial forces during the 1880s for use as ship-mounted armaments, shore batteries, and horse-drawn field carriages for artillery or infantry. The Nordenfelt guns remained in service until the early 1900s.
