Military Medal : Bombardier F Warren, 6 Field Artillery Brigade, AIF
Military Medal (Geo V) without ribbon. Impressed around edge with recipient's details. The medal has been converted for wear as a pendant by removing the suspender bar and replacing it with an 8 mm silver ring.
Awarded to 8627 Bombardier Frederick Warren of 6 Field Artillery Brigade, AIF. Warren was born in 1897 and worked as a station hand until his enlistment on 17 September 1915. He sailed for Egypt on the troopship 'Persic' on 22 November 1915. Warren served with his unit on the Western Front and was awarded the Military Medal. The recommendation for the award reads, 'On the night of October 19th 1917, Gunner (A/Bombardier) F. Warren was leading a number of ammunition laden mules across an almost impassable stretch of country, in the darkness, when the convoy came under heavy shell fire. In spite of these difficulties he succeeded in keeping the animals together and by his coolness and judgement safely delivered the ammunition to his Battery. This acting N.C.O has rendered consistently gallant service throughout.' He embarked for return to Australia on 27 April 1919.
