General Krasnoff, the locally elected viceroy or Ataman of the Don Cossacks, speaks with the officers of the Allied Mission to Russia. 1 General Krasnoff; 2 Commander Arthur George Hayes Bond; 3 French Captain Cochin; 4 possibly Engineer Lieutenant Commander George William Bloomfield of Brisbane, Qld; 5 Russian Admiral Kononoff. In the right foreground is an unidentified French officer. The Mission sought to investigate the situation of the Cossacks, who were defending their country in the eastern corner of the Ukraine against the Bolsheviks. HMAS Swan of the Australian destroyer flotilla and the French destroyer Bisson conveyed the members of the Mission. See EN0254-EN0262, EN0301-EN0307.
