Description

Studio portrait of two soldiers. Standing (left) is 2593 Private (Pte) Arthur Glassbrough Gibson, 8th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of North Williamstown, Vic. Pte Gibson enlisted on 28 April 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Makarini on 15 September 1915. He later served as a company quartermaster sergeant and was awarded the Military Service Medal (MSM). CQMS Gibson returned to Australia on 8 April 1919 with the 46th Battalion. See also DA10211. Seated is 2772 Private (Pte) Walter Smith Maggs, 8th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of Longlea via Bendigo, Vic. Pte Maggs enlisted on 5 January 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Makarini on 15 September 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) and returned to Australia on 26 July 1919 with the 46th Battalion. See also DA10052 and DA10053.
