Description
Studio group portrait of three soldiers. Identified are: 4219 Private (Pte) George Welsh, of South Ballarat, Vic, who enlisted on 21 December 1915; 4216 Pte George William Wright, of Thornbury, Vic, who enlisted on 13 December 1915; and possibly 4100 Pte Sydney Elliott, of Newcastle, NSW, who enlisted on 31 December 1915. All three soldiers were members of the 10th Reinforcements, 24th Battalion when they embarked aboard HMAT Wiltshire in Melbourne on 7 March 1916. On 6 September 1918, while a member of the 58th Battalion, Pte Welsh died of wounds at Casualty Clearing Station No 41, at Proyart, France. Pte Wright returned to Australia on 5 July 1919. Pte Elliott returned to Australia on 25 November 1917.
