Children's shoe and clothing exchange
Description
British Second World War poster advertising a children's shoe and clothing exchange. The title is printed in red ink and dominates the upper quarter of the poster, with three paragraphs of text printed in black ink underneath stating the condition clothes for exchange should be in, and other practicalities of the exchange.
During the Second World War Britain experienced a shortage of clothes and materials, largely due to the problems the Merchant Navy were suffering in the North Atlantic and the Channel from German U-Boats. Exchanges such as the one advertised in this poster were set up to distribute outgrown clothes while clothing and other goods where scarce.
