Description

A British Second World War poster illustrating the Allied air offensive against Germany up until 1st January 1941.

This British Second World War poster was created by His Majesty's Stationary Office to help spread word of the successful Allied bombing campaign on German territory. The poster shows most major cities with the red silhouette of size proportionate to the bombing campaign directed at that particular area. Around many of the cities and areas are also silhouettes of factories, railway yards, and aerodromes representing the reasons for the targetting of that particular place. In the lower right corner is an inset image of the Ruhr area - an area that received much attention from the Allied bombing efforts. This detail shows the specific smaller towns that were targetted. The Ruhr Valley would continue to be a major taget by Allied forces throughout the war.
