Description

Outdoor profile portrait of Captain Benjamin Digby Gibson, AAMC, of Vaucluse, NSW, mounted on a horse. Originally of Dublin, Ireland, he came to Australia in 1914, aged 36. He enlisted and left Australia as Medical Officer with the 5th Field Artillery Brigade (5FAB) and subsequently served with the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance and as the Regimental Medical Officer of the 9th Light Horse Regiment (9ALH). On Sunday 14 January 1917 at 8am, he accidentally drowned, aged 39, whilst swimming at El Masaid, near El Arish.
