Military Medal : Private F McArthur, 13 Infantry Battalion, AIF
Military Medal (Geo V). Impressed around edge with recipient's details.
This medal was awarded to 3849 Private (Pte) Frank McArthur. Pte McArthur enlisted on 28 August 1915 and served with 13 Battalion. On 29 September 1917 he was recommended for the Military Medal. His recommendation reads 'for gallant conduct and devotion to duty as a linesman in the operations near Zonnebeke on the 26 September, 1917. It is to this linesman that the credit is due for the excellent communication throughout the advance. Out of the lines continuously, under the heaviest shell fire and through the fiercest barrages McArthur did all that was humanly possible to keep the wires going. On occasions he established 'test stations' by 'tapping in' along the route and waiting in shell holes. His brave and skilful work calls for very high recommendation'. McArthur was later promoted to the rank of corporal and returned to Australia on 13 April 1919.
