Description

Studio portrait of 4441 Private (Pte) Charles Andrew Bramley, 6th Battalion, of Pyramid, Vic. Pte Bramley enlisted on 21 July 1915 and was killed in action on 10 August 1918 near Rosieres in France. Pte Bramley's brother, 2632 Lance Corporal Henry Thomas (Harry) Bramley, 60th Battalion, was killed in action on 26 April 1918. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
