In an interview conducted at home by his grandson Douglas Chappell, John (Jack) Findley speaks of his experiences as a miner with the 4th Brigade on Gallipoli and as a linesman with the 39th Battery of Australian Field Artillery on the Western Front during the First World War. He describes his actions and relates stories and anecdotes of personal significance. Major themes include the importance of mateship and humour, being resourceful, and the impact of disease and poor living conditions.
