Description

Black and white leaflet encouraging women to vote YES in the Referendum. Front: "STAND BY YOUR OWN!" Reverse: "BRAVE BRITISH WOMEN, EXAMPLE TO AUSTRALIANS. Do you know that British Women are joining the Navy? These girls of the Bull Dog breed are doing shore work so that more men may be made available to fight the German submarines. Do you know that a 'Women's Army Auxiliary Corps' has been formed to do active military work behind the lines in Flanders? Such is the fact - an army of British Women! These women have liberated thousands of men for duty in the firing line. Great Britain is calling for 10,000 women a month to serve as cooks, waitresses, clerks, mechanics, chauffeurs, engine repairers, transport workers, grooms, etc., etc. And the women of England are answering this call. They have not hesitated, knowing that in the life and death struggle of their country every eligible man is wanted in the firing line. By these brave women doing work in the shell-swept zone, usually undertaken by men, thousands of soldiers have been released for the grim work of the trenches. Will the women of Australia allow their men to accept this service from the women of England. Just realise what this would mean. A NATION PLEDGED TO THE LAST MAN SHELTERING BEHIND THE WOMEN OF THE EMPIRE! Australia could never live down the shame if her manhood accepted this sacrifice from British women. Think of it: 10,000 WOMEN OF ENGLAND EVERY MONTH GOING TO FRANCE TO BACK UP THEIR MEN, AND AUSTRALIA ASKING FOR 7,000 MEN A MONTH TO BACK UP THE ANZACS! The women of England are helping to achieve victory, sharing with their sisters of France and Belgium the hardships of war. The women of Australia can back them up with An Overwhelming YES on December 20."
