Description

Members of the 2/19th Battalion digging and constructing trenches at No 5 camp. The Battalion was later captured by the Japanese in the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942 and most of the men were killed in action (KIA) or held as prisoners of war (POW). Identified are: NX34033 Private (Pte) Curtis Grafton ‘Clem’ Hunt (POW); NX35619 Pte George Alan Rosetta (POW); NX35415 Corporal Barry Vincent McGinley (KIA in Malaya on 22 January 1942); NX70159 Lieutenant Richard Wigram Locke Austin (POW); NX35231 Pte Leslie William Curtis (KIA in Malaya on 19 January 1942).
