Journee de l'Armee d'Afrique et des troupes Coloniales [Day of the African army and colonial troops]
Description
French First World War poster depicting Army recruits from the French colonies in Africa charging in the trenches. In 1914-1918, soldiers who originated in the French colonies played a considerable role on the European fronts and in the Balkans. In particular, the French army recruited nearly 158,000 men from North Africa alone and from the colonies a total of some 600,000 soldiers were mobilised.
