Description
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant Mervyn Digby Knight, MC,60 Battalion, France, 1917. Collection consists of biographical notes, a handwritten copy of a letter from General William Birdwood to Lieutenant Knight, and a handwritten copy of the recommendation of Knight for the Military Cross.

Biographical note: Lieutenant Mervyn Digby Knight, MC, 60 Battalion, AIF, clerk, of St. Kilda, Victoria, born Brislington, Somerset, England, March 1891; came to Australia at the age of 17; joined the AIF in August 1914 and was posted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; served in Egypt, Gallipoli, and France; appointed to a commission on 13 September 1916; won the Military Cross at Polygon Wood, September 1917; killed in action 6 July 1918.
