Jackson, Alfred Charles Harrop (2nd Lieutenant, b.? - d.1915)
Collection relating to the service of 2nd Lieutenant Alfred Charles Harrop Jackson, 6 Battalion AIF, Gallipoli, 1915. Collection consists of photostat copies of letters of condolence and of a letter written by Jackson's mother to the director of the Australian War Memorial. Collection also contains a photostat copy of a newspaper cutting from The Argus newspaper describing the attack on German Officer's Trench, Gallipoli, where 2nd Lieutenant Alfred Charles Harrop Jackson was killed. Location of original letters unknown.
Biographical note: Lieutenant, 6th Bn, AIF. Died on 9 August 1915 of wounds received during the attack on German Officers Trench, Anzac, on the 6th. Bank clerk; of Melbourne; born Hawthorn, Vic., 1888, educated at Ballarat College; served for three years in the cadets; enlisted in the AIF on 2 September 1914 as a private; 21 October 1914, embarked from Melbourne in "Orvieto" with 5th Battalion; 2 May 1915, promoted corporal; 13 May 1915, appointed 2nd Lieutenant and transferred to 6 Battalion; age at time of death, 27. Mother's name - Annie Jackson.
