Dill, Herbert Leslie (Lieutenant, b.? - d.1923)
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant Herbert Leslie Dill MC, 3 Battalion, Egypt, Gallipoli, France, 1915-1919. Collection includes photostat copies of extracts from letters and a narrative of service.
Biographical note: Served with the 3rd Battalion, AIF. Died 29 June 1923, Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick, NSW, from the effects of wounds received in action in France , Grazier of Condoblin District, NSW, educated at Newington College, Sydney, joined AIF on 9 June 1915; served Egypt, Gallipoli and France. Was severely wounded, and after long periods in hospital in England, eventually returned to Australia, age at time of death, 27. Obituary Sydney Morning Herald 3 July 1923. MC was awarded for action on 15 April 1917 in which Dill was wounded.
