Description
Diary with regular entries from the time of departure of NSW Naval Contingent aboard the SS Salamis at Sydney. Covers arrival in China, posting to the Taku Forts area, records minor policing actions, details of health problems, arrival in Peking, and account of garrison duties with the British legation. Johnston served as a member of the NSW Marine Light Infantry.
