Ridley, John Gotch MC (Lieutenant, b.1896 - d.1976)
Collection relating to the First World War service of Lt John Gotch Ridley, 53 Battalion. Collection consists of a notebook containing experiences in the charge of the 53rd Battalion AIF, 19 July 1916 at Fromelles; carbon copy of experiences on the Somme Front, 1916-1917; typewritten copy of Resume of Experiences on the Western Front, February 1918 - September 1918; and a typewritten copy of article titled 'The war romance of a bible class'. Ridley was awarded a Military Cross for action near Bullicourt in 1918. Items in this collection have been published in a book titled 'Born to be a soldier: war diary of Lieutenant John Gotch Ridley MC, World War 1, 1914-18', compiled and edited by Jean Kelshaw and Bruce Thornton, published in 2010 by The Baptist Historical Society of NSW. A copy of this publication is held in the Memorial's Monograph Collection [Call no. 940.4272092 R545b].
