Bourchier, Murray William James (Lieutenant Colonel, b.1881 - b.1937)
Collection relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Murray William James Bourchier, 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment. Collection consists four letters written by Lt Col Bourchier - two to his family from Gallipoli (1916), one from Palestine (November 1917), and one from Syria (November 1918) in which he mentions the Armistice, his friends who have died, and provides a very descriptive account of the area he is in close to Lebanon. Also in the collection is a completed Australian War Recod Section [AWRS] biographical form summarising the service record of Lt Col Bourchier, and biographical notes compiled by the Memorial.
Bourchier survived the war and returned to his home in Victoria. He remained on officer in the CMF being promoted to Brigadier in 1931. In 1920 he was elected to the Victorian Parliament where he remained until he resigned in 1936.
