Studio portrait of 3366 Private (Pte) Harry John Williams, 12th Battalion from Ulverstone, Tasmania. An 18 year old platelayer prior to enlisting on 1 September 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 7th Reinforcements from Hobart, Tasmania on 13 December 1915 aboard HMAT Ajana. After arriving in France, he transferred to the 12th Battalion and was killed in action at Pozieres on 19-22 August 1916. Pte Williams is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
