Studio portrait of 929 Corporal (Cpl) Norman Stanley Wilson, 28th Battalion from Caversham, Western Australia. A 24 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 15 March 1915, he embarked for overseas as a Driver with A Company, 28th Battalion from Fremantle, Western Australia on 29 June 1915 aboard HMAT Ascanius. After embarking with the battalion for Gallipoli on 4 September 1915, he served there with them until the evacuation. He was promoted to Corporal on 12 February 1916 and deployed to France in March 1916. After being promoted to Temporary Sergeant (Sgt) on 14 July 1916, he was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 29 July 1916. Sgt Wilson is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
