Studio portrait of 4240 Private Alfred James Williams, 28th Battalion from Cue, Western Australia. A 36 year old station hand prior to enlisting on 10 February 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 10th Reinforcements from Fremantle, Western Australia on 1 April 1916 aboard HMAT Ulysses. While serving on the Western Front, he was wounded in action near Montauban, France and evacuated to England for medical treatment. He died of wounds in hospital in Devonport, England and is buried in the Weston Mill Cemetery, Plymouth, UK.
