Studio portrait of 2304 Private (Pte) Joseph Colin Weston, 19th Battalion from Lithgow, New South Wales. A 19 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 27 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 4th Reinforcements of the 19th Battalion from Sydney on 30 September 1915 aboard HMAT Argyllshire. Following further training in Egypt, he deployed to France where he was wounded in action on 24 April 1916. After being evacuated to England for medical treatment, he returned to France and was transferred to the 53rd Battalion on 7 October1916. He was wounded in action for the second time on 25 October and died of these wounds on 27 October 1916. Pte Weston was buried at Sheet Albert , now Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'abbe, near Amiens, France.
