Studio portrait of 1061 Private (Pte) Albert George Warner, 38th Battalion from Mount Elgin, Victoria. A 24 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 4 March 1916, he embarked for overseas with C Company from Melbourne on 20 June 1916 aboard HMAT Runic. After further training and a period of hospitalization in England, he joined the 38th Battalion in France where he was killed in action on 9 September 1918 in the advance along the Somme Valley. Pte Warner is buried in the Unicorn Cemetery, Vend'huile, France.
