Description

Studio portrait of 197 Private Roy Walton Underwood, 32nd Battalion from St Peters, South Australia. A 23 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 21 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with A Company from Adelaide on 18 November 1915 aboard HMAT Geelong. On arrival in France he joined the 32nd Battalion on the Somme and was killed in action on 5 March 1917 whilst on duty as a regimental stretcher bearer. He is buried in the Bancourt British Cemetery, France.
