Description

Studio portrait of 3621 Corporal (Cpl) Reginald Samuel Thorn, 10th Battalion from Cavenagh, South Australia. A 27 year old school teacher prior to enlisting on 31 August 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 8th Reinforcements of the 27th Battalion from Adelaide on 12 January 1916 aboard HMAT Borda. Shortly after arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 10th Battalion in February 1916 and deployed to France in April 1916. Cpl Thorn was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 24 July 1916 and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave. His brother, 2238 Private Arthur Thorn, 27th Battalion, was killed in action on 5 November 1916. See image H05744.
