Description

Studio portrait of 2960 Private (Pte) Sydney Ness, 50th Battalion from Warrow, South Australia. A 29 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 22 May 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 7th Reinforcements of the 50th Battalion from Adelaide on 6 November 1916 aboard HMAT Afric. Following further training in England, he proceeded to France where he joined the 50th Battalion on 4 July 1917. After being wounded in action at Villers-Bretonneux on 25 April 1918, he rejoined the 50th Battalion on 29 May 1918 and was then killed in action at Bray on 12 August 1918. Pte Ness is buried in Bonnay Farm Military Cemetery, Bray-sur-Somme, France. [See also image P09291.053.]
