Description

Portrait of 3198 Private (Pte) Felix Nash, 60th Battalion from North Carlton, Victoria. A 19 year old stoker serving with the 60th Battalion Militia prior to enlisting in the AIF on 20 September 1915, he embarked for overseas service with the 7th Reinforcements of the 23rd Battalion from Melbourne aboard HMAT Commonwealth (A73) on 26 November 1915. After arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 58th Battalion and then three weeks later, transferred to the 60th Battalion and went with them to France in June 1916. According to his mother, he was one of the Australians picked to march through Paris to celebrate the French National Day, 14 July. Pte Nash was wounded in action at Fleurbaix during the Battle of Fromelles on 19 July 1916 and died from his wounds on 24 July. He is buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), Lille, France.
