Studio portrait of 6851 Private (Pte) Cyril Edwin Halse Ley, 11th Battalion from York, Western Australia. A 35 year old business manager prior to enlisting on 28 September 1916, he embarked for overseas service with the 22nd Reinforcements from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT Argyllshire (A8) on 9 November 1916. Three weeks after disembarking in England, he was admitted to hospital with influenza and died from bronchitis on 11 February 1917. Pte Ley is buried in the Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, United Kingdom.
