Studio portrait of 167 Private (Pte) Stanley Lancaster, 2nd Pioneer Battalion from Stawell, Victoria. A 23 year old farm labourer prior to enlisting on 2 February 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 23rd Battalion from Melbourne on 10 May 1915 aboard HMAT Euripides. After serving at Gallipoli with the 23rd Battalion, Pte Lancaster transferred to the 2nd Pioneer Battalion in France in 1916. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 at Bullecourt, France and is buried in the H.A.C. Cemetery, Escoust-St Mein, France.
